The austere wind swinging across the lake of silent nocturnal tales, while the reflection of the mills frozen solemnly ashore blurred by the spoken words from the young girl whose fragile body was loosely chained by the memories of rust. Post black metal with a particular gloomy aesthetic of a grayish dream bred by the Eastern soil, Rustylake is another fresh born from the vigorous youngsters belonging to new wave of Chinese black metal.
Based in Xi'An, Rustylake is a post/atmospheric black metal formed by T.Z. (Guitar/Vocal) and L.S.(Bass/Drum programming) in September 2018. The name was inspired by the namesake of classic Cube Escape Series, while one could also argue how brilliantly the atmosphere they evoke through the music matched with the often bleak and sometimes gothic feeling from the game. However, Rustylake's music is much more than that: highly influenced by some of the leading acts in this genre today like those Japanese post black/hardcore legends 明日の叙景/Asunojokei and Heaven in her Arms, as well as Alcest and Deafheaven aesthetically speaking: with all those influences, Rustylake managed to add their own unique touch of mystifying loneliness using some fresh and mesmerizing post-metal guitar work with a cathartic surge of flooding melodies, intertwining with fierce howls and poetic monologues.
Their debut full length titled 《肖 Shaw》was centered around the short fiction written by T.Z. This is a concept album that based upon the perspective of the main male protagonist Shaw while narrating a story of love and other derivative emotions between him and a young female called 落/Luo. Pest Productions is glad to release this album in physical formats in early 2021.

NONE a opéré un virage dans Where Life Should Be et ça se confirme davantage dans Damp Chill of Life. Le temps des métaphores est révolu : l'humidité froide, c'est celle des larmes qui coulent sur le visage à cause de la dépression. Tout pleure dans cet album : les guitares typées DSBM grésillent, les solos ("The Damp Chill of Life", "It's Painless To Let Go") sont liquides et coulent, les voix prennent à la gorge ; même le piano, étranglé par les sanglots ("Cease"), est aphone. Insoutenable...

I’ve owned the Imperfect disc for a bit now, but had slept on the rest of the material, with the exception of Disquiet, until now. Much different than my normal dissonant, occult sound fare, but everything Unrequited creates is bursting at the seams with power and emotion. Respect and support.

A truly stellar death/doom album with heavy doses of black metal. Tracks like Isolation, Child of Light, and Broken Hymns deliver the sorrowful and icy tone of this album, elevated by the stirring cello compositions of Raphael Weinroth-Browne. The album delivers a deeply satisfying crescendo in Becoming Intangible before stirring the soul once again with Epilogue.
