Snuff out. Your reflection on the surface of the blade and the water. Whispers that blur your gaze into the Darkness of the Wild, as one's boundaries of the Self are slowly gnashed out by a pulsing tide of Angst, inside and out. In the fissures of rejection, the Self is gutted, sacrificed to the memory of a futile longing. Winter steals nothing, just as Spring draws one's desire closer to the ultimate end -- everything born into Time will fade as Time itself falls into a slumber without end. When all the physical beings are reduced to ashes, will the freed soul ascend among the stars? Time is Oblivion. There's no room for Hope to take root.
Wanderer is another side project of 杨厄 (DoomYang), the mastermind behind 山神廟-SrenHlinMrews. Starting out as an avid supporter of the early 2000s DSBM, 杨厄 has made his way into the Chinese BM scene with a few nicely tailored demos in the mid-2010s. Vestiges, the debut full-length of Wanderer (together with the SrenHlinMrews debut), is the manifestation of his attempts throughout the years: unlike 雲山夢樹, the despair that haunts these five tracks here is of more primitive cruelty -- in the veins of the classic DSBM sound, Vestiges invites the listeners to sit through a bileful inner-monologue of a troubled soul, while the only meaningful thing left is just grief and contempt.
