Decade years making a new album might have felt too short for RESURRECTION, just as the 17-years wait since their sole full-length album, 'National Martyr' felt too long for their fans.
The passing years have transformed into unwavering conviction as RESURRECTION's original members reunite, unveiling their latest EP album, ' Yue the Exterminator / 越绝,' to the world. This album features two tracks, 'Devine Sword of Extermination / 越绝剑' and 'The Burning Gusu Tower / 火燒姑蘇台,' carrying forward RESURRECTION's signature blend of patriotic fervor, akin to those who thirst for action and transcend the boundaries.
Classifying RESURRECTION's music within a specific metal subgenre proves challenging. It encompasses the hallmark riffs and growling vocals of black metal, while also embracing the relentless, nerve-racking rhythms of thrash metal. What unites these elements is their unique Eastern aesthetic, neither a fusion rooted in Japanese wabi-sabi nor mere passion. Particularly within Yue the Exterminator / 越绝,' RESURRECTION's music becomes more intricate and profound. Once reading the lyrics, the descriptions of supernatural scenes and the earth-shaking echoes of war within the ancient city of Nanjing, RESURRECTION's hometown, and in the realm of Wu and Yue, where King Goujian once reigned, no longer seem so mystical. It's as if an unseen force connects it all, allowing the cries buried beneath the ruins to resound once more amidst the towering skyscrapers.
